Kaaren Hirschowitz Engel works with a variety of media, including acrylic paint, inks, paper, canvas, felt and found objects. She creates vivid two-dimensional paintings, as well as three-dimensional works woven from her paintings on paper. The scale of her work has grown increasingly large as the opportunities for public installations present themselves, but she also works on a decidedly human scale. Regardless of size or shape, her work is defined by vibrant color, rich texture and a free flowing energy.
Kaaren is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, holds a bachelors degree from Barnard College, Columbia University and a law degree from Emory University. She was a practicing attorney for over a dozen years, both in San Francisco, California and Nashville, Tennessee. In 1999, she retired from her position as partner with a Nashville law firm and six months later “found” her second career as a visual artist.
Kaaren is based in Nashville, Tennessee, where she lives, works, teaches yoga and practices sound healing. She also travels extensively, gathering inspiration from all corners of the world.
Her work can be viewed through June 15th at the Donelson Corporate Centre located at 3055 Lebanon Rd. For more information, email cc[at]carolinecarlisle.com.
